The role of the trusted advisor, mentor, consultant and coach involves a very unique dynamic when connecting to individuals on a private and personal level as distinguished from that of a corporate business level. From experience, the relationship between mentors and proteges is a fascinating and expansive process because there are no buffers between the two individuals: it is a one-on-one exchange in search of authenticity with nowhere to hide. The practice of the mentor when viewed as a journey, develops a mutual trust to form a bond, and the nature of the relationship evolves by trust. The relationship becomes a partnership for the development and evolution of the mentee.
Over my decades of career, it occurs that a relationship initiated in the corporate business model can shift into a personal model with outstanding results: staff members can develop and advance to positions of Directors, VPs, and even President/CEOs.
